Commercial skills training for senior officers
By 2020, local authorities will have faced a reduction to core funding from the Government of nearly £16 billion over the preceding decade. (Local government funding: moving the conversation on). Councils are finding new and innovative ways in which to generate sustainable income streams, to protect frontline services and achieve social value outcomes.
The LGA has designed a training programme with the Institute of Directors (IoD) to support senior officers to develop commercial skills that will help them to make confident and robust commercial decisions. The training comprises four modules: dealing and negotiating with commercial partners, commercial strategy and risk, governance and finance.
There are two opportunities to access the training: the first in Oxfordshire, starting in October and the second in Leeds, starting in January. It is also an excellent opportunity to connect with other councils developing commercial initiatives.
